The main issue I see with removing the sway bar and not installing limiting straps is the axle will droop so much that it nearly binds the front drive shaft. The sway bar also acts basically as a "limiting strap" for the stock suspension. Without it, the axle will keep dropping until the upper control arms contact the flat metal piece above the them on the axle end.
That sounds like a good way to put a kink in a control arm.

When I put the spacers in my truck I had the axle dropped as far as it would go on one side and jacked up as high as it would go without raising the otherside and the springs still wouldn't go in (with them compressed a good bit). Then I took the track bar off and I was able to get them in there.
My sisters truck was a different story, I left the track bar on there and was able to put the springs in without a hitch (with the same coil spacers). So there has to be a minor difference between the 5.9l and the 5.2l suspension, or maybe the sport and SLT, or maybe I just have good stiff springs and hers are worn out.
I dunno, I'm going to leave it hooked up for Uwharrie just to be safe.

So where do you hook up the limiting straps and how long do you think they ought to be (for your truck, which is only 1/2" higher than mine)? I'm thinking the frame to the plate under the spring buckets.

GET RID OF YOUR SWAP BARS!!! lol sorry, had a moment there.. they do limit a little bit but do not ( orry for this) at all limit the drop on your suspention... your shocks will bottom out before your springs fall out... sorry to hurt anybodys feelings and this may cause a fight... but yoru springs will not fll out if you have a stock suspention and no sway bars... i used to flex the ever lovin hell out of mine... and never fell out..

you can still put the vehicle on a lift to work on it nd the springs dont fall otu like mine do :-) but i have long arms, extended trac bar 7" coil lift, and 3 inch spacer lift... i am made to flex...

on a leaf sprung vehicle yes, it is a tad bit more likely to tip because you have a spfter ride with leafs... " sometimes"

when you take the sway bar off your truck, it will lean in the corners a little more, and it will still hvae the sme ride quality it did before, just keep in mind you are not in nascar and youll be fine

go ahead and leave it out sherrif... ill help ya if you have to put it back together.. but i dought you will,,

as for limiting strpas, if you unhook the swap bar, mount one end there, and then one end to the frame... go to an autoshop, and lift the vehicle as far as you want that acel to drop, and take a measurement of where your mounting too... im doing mine in 9/16 cable, will never stretch and very hard to break

thats my thoughts exactly, hence the reason for this thread lol

mine is popping real loud when you turn hard left or hit a decent bump/pot hole and the sway bar bushings are shot so I figured i'd chunk it instead or replacing them...and now that I know its not going to effect ride quality that much....ITS GONE!!!

Thanks guys!

I got an idea, how about just welding steel hooks on the spring bucket and the spacer instead of hose clamps? That would keep them in there.

ford uses a "clip" to hold them in... but hose clamps work just the same

I wont call you a liar, well, at least not about your truck But, on my truck they DO fall out.

Heres a pic of my truck, with all stock suspension aside from longer shocks and diesel springs, with the sway bar removed... and my coil falling out of the top bucket while flexing

BrandonsPictureCard1034.jpg?t=1268449186

Although it is kinda hard to see, the top of the spring is still silver because I painted them while they were on the truck, and I couldn't paint that portion that was up in the bucket. It is a good 2 or 3" from the bottom of the coil bucket.

Oh, and sheriff, my plan for limiting straps will be doing what meanwhite said, using the mount for the sway bar on the axle end. I also like the idea of using cable. I have seen chains used before, and that is noisy and anoying.
