Gear help
I own a 1998 Dodge Ram V10 4x4 and am currently still running the stock gears which I think are 3:54s. I have lifted the truck 8" and am currentlly running 37"x12.5" Super Swamper SSR's and am thinking about upgrading to a 38"x15.5" Super Samper when it comes time to replace the SSR's. In the meantime I am looking to upgrade my gears and was wondering what the best ratio would be for my application and what kind of impact it would have on my fuel economy. I was thinking 4:88's but any input would be appreciated.
HOLY ****!!! 3.55's with 37's? thats got to to suck *****.... anyone feel free to correct me, but i believe 4.88 and 37's would set you to be about the performance level of stock tires and 3.55's so i would say that would work out pretty good.
you get way better Mpgs if you upgraded to any gear lol....my be boggy...have you done the plenum? and yes 4.88's would be perfect, in Summit i think the prices are $230 for rear 4.88's and $220 for front 4.88's.....throw a locker in the front diff.....im thinking about doing it this summer after i finish my other "Projects" i have going on with the truck.
Thanks for the compliment and yes they are Bushwacker Pocket flares...And believe it or not the truck still has ***** even with the stock gears and tires but I'm sure it can be better... 95RAM360 what do you mean by "have you done the plenum?" and what would a locker in the front diff do for me? I am fairly new to all of this so any advice would be awesome. Thanks

I forgot the V10's dont have plenum.....FYI the plenum is a gasket mounted to the bottom of the intake manifold, This allows oil to seap into the manifold, and cause poor performace/mpgs, clog the cat, foul 02 sensors, and the dealers devised a way to get rid of it, for it can crate pinging, and thats the Deathflash... and every gas 94-2001 V6 or V8 Ram will have this blow out...its inevitable.

nah, i dont see why you should, like i said, itll set you close to how it would be with stock gears and tires... like mentioned above, you might even look into 5.13's itll give you plenty as far as what you NEED. and then some.. youll get a little extra torque..but over gearing will cause you to turn higher rpms, at highway speeds... for instance i have 4.56 gears with 265's and turn a lot of rpm's on the interstate, but i ****ing love the torque
