I can't search 727 since it's too short for vB, but I've been given a great deal on a remaned 727, and I was going to have my tranny swapped anyways. Has anyone done this with the 518? I want my truck to be built for heavy duty, offroad, and to be reliable. If theres any write-ups, please let me know.

 

On a 1996 the computer is going to go crazy without tranny inputs. You may need a manual trans computer. The 727 is significantly shorter than the 518 so you will need new drive shafts. Maybe a different shift linkage for the tranny and t-case. Honestly it would be easier to just get the 518 rebuilt and add some strong parts. The 518 is a 727 with an OD unit attached. Also with the 727 you lose OD so your milage will drop significantly and the truck will be louder on the highway.
