Default Gas Mileage Project REVISED

ALright, Remember when I said I was going to put my 4 hole injectors from my 1996 on my 2001? Well I am rethinking this whole project. Namely, because i have the DEATH FLASH and I think that installing bigger/better injectors may not make a difference, or worse, mess something up. Please give me your thoughts on this.

SO, I actually want to spread this project out a bit by statring with small mods, and work to getting the injectors on. All the while I will provide updates.

Here is what I was thinking:
First I will Inspect all sensors and clean/replace (MAP/IAC/TPS as well as 02). I am thinking that starting a baseline with all new sensors would be better for the project. But those sensors are costly, when you get the good ones. SO an inspect, and TPS clean should be a good baseline.
Basically my CONTROLs are:
Stock airlid, and good functioning sensors.

Here are the mods I am thinking:
1. AIC sensor relocation: Like this guy did
http://snowdigger.com/the_garage/gar...ensor_mod.html
REASON: The IAC is on the intake and reads air at a higher temp than is actually going into the engine. Thus, the engine will not add as much fuel to the mix. If the IAC is relocated to the intake tube, the read will be cooler, and more gas will be sprayed.
BOTTOM LINE: poor mans fuel injector swap (still only a 1 hole injector). PLUS Mopar performance Air Hat.

2. High performance tune up kit: Like Snowdigger did
Taylor Thundervolt50 Plug Wires install
http://snowdigger.com/the_garage/gar...lug_wires.html
Plus Cap and Rotor.

2. MSD ignition:
I still have the MSD box and coil I had on my 1996. I am not sure if the coil is compatible, but it looks exactly the same. I will check autozone to see if the PN for the 2001 is the same as the 1996 (Hypertech coil).

3. Gap plug wires. Since the MSD and coil will put more power to the spark, I will gap the plugs to .038 THat leaves room for the plugs to be gapped to .040 as they wind down. The plugs look very good and were changed 10K miles ago. We will see if the gaps do anything.

4. Install the 24# 4 hole injectors from my 1996.

By the time these things are done, I will be able to get a SCT tuner and get rid of the death flash. I can fool my wife into thinking that I must do these things for warranty purposes (routine maint). And I can save additional cash for the SCT. SO when I drop a bomb for the SCT, my wife will be easier to coax into letting me spend that cash.

DOes anyone have any suggestions? Switch these around, add to them. I am looking to only spend about $200-300 before the SCT (pending the sensors are good). I just want to go from lowest price to highest.

Then i can start a DIY thread on this. Thoughts?

Reason for not reflashiong the PCM FIRST is ebcause i mwant to see what mileage, performance gains can be had while you have the death flash.

Yeah, but the warranty is up in 1 year. It only has just over 48K miles. If the tranny goes, i will just get a Dr Evil Tranny. But I figure I have at least 30K miles before my tranny goes.

Plus, I wired the MSD to be a quick connect. I can install it and take it out in 5 minutes. The coil looks BONE STOCK. I am also going to quick connect the IAT and just buy a second one that will go in the airbox.

That way, if the tranny goes, or engine blows I can do some work before the tow truck comes.

They will really have to look closely to notice the injectors. But I doubt the engine blows. The motor is still tight, and the prev owner only used mobil 1 synthetic (has receipts from the shop).
