So the time has finally come, my stock muffler finally gave up the ghost so i can get a new stainless steel exhaust.

ive got 96 ram, reg cab short box with a v6 under the hood. i got prining on a flowmaster 40series with dual outlets, going 2.25inch for the outlets.

do you think this is a good choice? my low end right now sucks, dont care about high end power too much at all. my exhaust guy had mentionned 2.5inch out.... which should i go with?

also, i sthere any benefit, besides initial cost, to going with just one outlet instead of 2?

on a motor that small, opening up the exhaust that much will hurt big time on low end torque. my experience for a 5.9 motor is if doing dual outs, 2.25 is the way to go to keep low end torque. I opened mine up to 2.5's and was un-happy with that setup so I added some reducers to bring it down to 2.25's. this is slightly bigger than a single 3" out.

 

so really, i should go no more than 2.25" outlets.... or go with a single outlet instead.

 

that's what I would do... I wanted dual exhaust so i had to reduce my dual out's down to the 2.25" which is slightly bigger than the single 3" out.
