Default Auto tranny sluggish to shift

First post here in the Dodge forums, hopefully someone has a suggestion or two for me!

I have a 1995 Dodge 1500 2 wheel drive auto with about 140,000 mi on it. The truck has been used to tow a trailer off and on, but has been fairly well looked after.

The transfmission seems to work fine, but it sticks/hesitates going into what seems like third gear. The engine will either rev higher (2500-3000RPM) and eventually switch, or I will let off the gas which seems to allow it to switch.

Not sure if this is one of those things I should just live with, or if it is worth looking into? Tranny fluid is in ok shape...again hesitant to do a switch.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Jason

Definitely something to look into, could be something as simple as a kickdown cable or band adjustment, or something worse.

I would start by adjusting the TV cable

Definitely start with the cable, ive seen them look ok at the ends but be frayed and falling apart in the middle. I rebuilt a dakota unit on the bench once and the customer put it in and blew up my phone because the unit didnt work worth a crap. They brought the truck down and i inspected the install and found that the cable was almost in two pieces! Replaced the cable and it worked great, customer felt pretty dumb.

after the cable i would look at the valve body, could have some sticky or worn out valves, in that case a sonnax sure cure would be in order. Lastly you could have a problem with the mechanical governor inside the unit. (worst case scenario).

I would also try a bottle of SMART BLEND. Accept no imitations, only use smart blend in the RED bottle, a great product for sticky valves.

If its skipping 2nd gear, I would say the 2nd gear band anchor might have fallen out. This happened to me, and it would shift from 1st to 3rd at around 2500 rpm. Easy fix if you have some mechanical knowledge.
