when do you replace the 02 sensors
I have a 1998 ram 4wd with a 318 about 115,000 miles on it. Never changed the sensors, dont have a code for them. Just wandering do I loeave them alone or swap them out..Thanks
Dodge reccommends them to be changed at every 60k miles. Yet its not nesscessary according to some people but you will see some what of a drop in milage. Based on my experience, I replace both O2 sensors on my Neon and it made a world of a difference.
If you havn't done the plenum fix yet it would be better to do that first since the new 02 sensors will get **** in them again because of the burnt oil. Do the plenum fix first, then change the 02 sensors. It will make a world of difference, and hell when your back there I'd do the cap/rotor and plugs/wires as well.
Yes, even though it doesn't use any oil or smoke, you may still have a leaking plenum.
You may losing tiny amounts of oil, thats why you don't notice it... but even the smallest amounts of oil will throw off your air/fuel ratio and cause all sorts of problems in the long term.
You losing power may not be the plenum gasket alone, you may have other issues (clogged cat or one on the way out may cause power loss).
Don't bother replacing the rear O2 sensor. Its only purpose is to tell you whether the converter is working properly or not, it does not help with any function other than that. The front O2 sensor is the only one that matters when it comes to A/F ratio.
