my ant. is mounted on a piece of 3/16" steel plate, and bolted under my hard top to the bed, ill get a pic later on this afternooon when i get off of work.

 

I have the Firestik SS-274a Hood/Trunk Groove Mount and have it between the bedside and the tailgate. I use a Wilson 4' Flexible CB Antenna that keeps the stress off the mount and the antenna when going through the trees on tight trails. And I have an old Cobra 25.

Where is the best place to mount the radio?

 

If you have the manual tranny as I do you are left with not too many good choices. My local CB shop had a floor mount bracket that sits it so the CB faceplate is pointing up toward the cieling and the CB body rides up against the front seat. Not my favorite location on earth bet at least it is bolted on. I'd like to see some cieling mount enclosures or something but haven't really found much myself.

 

Ive had mine on the ceiling, didnt like it, like i did in my ranger. put it under the dash, couldnt hear it, by far the best place ive found without using an external speaker is here. on the center console, i just lifted the lid, got 2" reinforcement brackets from walmart for like 2 bucks(basically just a 90* bracket for picture frames and such, you can find it in the hardware section) and screwed it to the console, and the screwed the CB bracket to the brackets, and ran the wire down between the seats, and you can see the CB wire running down the center of the transmission hump. which is no big deal cause no one rides in the middle anymore.

 

That center console idea is pretty cool. I don't think it would work so good with bigger/heavier radios like my Cobra 148GTLST. Could probably pull that off w/ my Uniden PC-122 though. Hmm.

 

I did something very similar... I cut up some old scrap angle iron and build a bracket that bolted up near the front of the seat. Used the same bolts that mount the center seat to the bracket. I'll try to remember to snap a picture tonight...

its pretty beefy, id say. and you could also adjust it so that some of the radios weight was resting on the seat itself. and you could always double up, the pack i got came with 4 brackets.
