Default Trans: What defines metal SHAVINGS?

I pulled the pan, and the magnet had some very very fine particles on it. If I would guess, about a tablespoon of fine dust was down there.

Is that normal, or is that shavings. There was nothing big at all. Just some smooth gray stuff. Kinda looks and feels like my wife's clay mask.

Is that cause for worry, or normal wear? Tranny has 48K miles on it. No erratic behavior except sometimes when the truck is going up a hill. Goes 4 to 3 then to 2 then back to 3 in about 1 second. However, i think that is more TPS related since it only happens when i take my foot off the gas a bit. And it doesn't happen often.

no, no pic. I was thinking that big shavings, like when you drill a hole in a metal plate, is what you need to look for.

Thanks, guys.
