Default urgent, need help ASAP re engine noise

am about to drive 800km to buy a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500. The guy says that the engine sounds typically Dodge, with some "valve clatter" is this a normal sound for these engines ? Obvioiusly if it is a considerable noise there is a problem, but what is considered normal for these engines ?

Thanks

That's pretty subjective. I've never noticed any significant vavletrain niose from any of the Dodges I've owned. SOmetimes other noises may be heard that people don't recognize.

How many miles are on the truck?

I imagine that some noise is normal, I have no idea what to expect, he just said it is a typically noisey dodge engine. Maybe he just means it doesn't purr like some do ?

225km is a bunch. I suppose if it has good oil pressure and they can give you a maintenance record for the truck....

eh, be carefull when you buy a truck with a "noisey" engine, I bought mine and the dealer told me that the tick I heard was a sticky lifter, but the more I listen to it the more it sounds like its coming from the lower end. Just be wary of valvetrain clatter, normaly to get clatter the truck had to be rodded on pretty hard to get the springs weak or the valves sloppy

Well I bought the truck, I don't know what noise the guy was talking about other then a very slight ticking that goes away when the clutch is pushed in (disengaged) The truck is in amazing shape, no rust, no leaks, interior is clean. The only issues are the sending unit and the brakes drag a little bit when applied but let go as soon as you give it gas or sit for a minute with the pedal off. Minor problems really since the truck was only 9900 bucks !!!!

I have taken them, I just have to transfer them to the computer and then figure out how to post them in here.
