Default R+P Gear help!

hey guys, Im new to the forum and i need some advice. I have a 96 dodge ram with the 5.9L 360 motor i wanna put 35in tires on the truck after i put a 5in lift on it. i was wondering what my best Ring and pinion gear ratio would be. I am not sure what the current ratio is. I will use the truck to tow a 5200LB travel trailer so i want a ratio that gives the truck good towing power and some "get up and go" over gas milage. thanks

How often do you tow?

If you tow a lot 4.88.

If you don't tow a lot 4.56 will do just fine.

Welcome.

Do you do a lot of highway/interstate driving at speeds over 65-70? If not, 4.88 FTW!!!
If yes, the milder 4.56's might be the better fit for all around use.

Oh, also, do you have an auto trans or a manual?

autotrans, i do a moderate amount of highway driving, will the 4.88s limit my highway speed to the 65-70 mph area?

Not meaning to thread jack but I was just fixing to post this same question. I'm lifting my truck next weekend and I was curious what y'alls input was. What I was reading on pavement sucks was saying 4.88 but that seems awefully steep. And welcome to the forums.

4.56 is the way to go than for you.

4.88 you will be running really high revs at high way speed.

sorry for that last reply, im not sure how to edit my replys yet. What i meant to say is my main thing for highway driving is that i want my RPMS below 3200 at 90mph...not that i would find myself in the 90mph range that often but i occasionaly take the truck to do some stock truck drag racing
