old style 318 to new style 318
hey guys...was wondering if anyone knows about or has done this...I have a 318 in my Ramcharger that needs to be rebuilt. I was thinking of doing it and putting it in my 99 Ram 1500. What are the specific differences between the 2? I think the heads are different but can I bolt Magnum style head and intake to the old style block? I just happen to have the spare motor around so if I can use it, it would save me a little money. Any other info would be great. Thanx.
The only problem with the old LA motors is that there are no sensor provisions to help run your computer. The crank pulley/balancer is different so you couldn't utilize your accessories easily. I beleive both engines balance differetly too.
The time and costs of trying to adapt the older motor to your truck you'll end up spending more than rebuilding your magnum engine.
For the record, you'd have an easier time putting the magnum motor in the Ramcharger.

I knew there were differences but I hadn't even thought of the crank sensor. I also didn't know about the mount locations. I kinda figured it wouldn't be worth it, but I thought I would check with someone who knows and maybe get lucky. Thanx for the advice.
