If you can take a large screwdriver and with the truck on just push the side of the belt both ways if it goes quite either way then you need to check alignment of pulleys, if not it could be wet or humid weather dont know what its like around you

Good idea redhead, I'll try that tomorrow... I used the 'big long prybar to the ear' trick today to try to pinpoint the sound on the alternator and tensioner, I wanted to do it on the idler pulley too. I was about to, got it almmmmost on the bolt, then the intelligent side of my brain kicked in and said 'nope, too damn close to the fan for that!' ... It should be good though anyway, its only a couple months old. The tensioner pulley has a little bit of endplay (front to back), would that be normal for them? That's why I wanna eliminate the belt as being the problem first, since that would be the easiest thing first.

You can squirt a little wd40 on the belt with the engine running at idle and see if it stops. A couple of second long squirts won't hurt anything. Then you will know if it's the belt or not. Usually with wd40 it'll stop squeaking for 30 seconds and then start back again. I put a gatorback belt on mine that I found used in the scrap yard I work at to see if it helped, and I wound up keeping it on instead of the new one I had on my truck. I've noticed no squeaking with the gatorback.

well I tried the soap trick today, didn't help when I put it on the smooth side while running, but I shut er down and rubbed a little on the grooved side and it seemed to do the trick. So it must be just the belt itself. I'll see how it is after a couple days of driving anyways...

I tried redheads idea of checking for side to side alignment and that wasn't the problem.

Is there any slack in the belt and are the grooves cracked.

Household powder Comet, works everytime. As a matter of fact its what we use at the shop for squeaky belts.

I might have to try that next, I took the wife and kids to safegrad breakfast this morning and it's still squeaking ... I think I'll take that belt off and throw the old one on and try it next (I saved it in case of emergency), and check all the pulleys real good
