Default Rear ABS

Hello All,

I'm new to this forum, visited lots but never posted.
I have a question which i tried to search with no luck.

I have a 99 Ram 1500 4x4 5.9, i know that i have rear ABS but have never had them working. abs light works but is not on.

even in winter, truck will slide and abs will not engage.

Any Ideas ?

Check to make sure fuses/relays aren't removed under the hood.

Rear wheel ABS vehicles like ours are different than 4 wheel ABS vehicles. You cannot really "feel" the ABS kick in a rear wheel ABS system, in my experience. It just keeps you moving straight in a sudden braking situation, rather than your back end sliding around. And when the ABS in our trucks works, the ABS light will not come on at all. The only time that ABS light will come on is if there is something wrong with the ABS system, or when you first turn the key.

4 wheel ABS you can actually feel (usually) kick in. Here's some good reading...
