Default Brake Drum to Disc Conversion

I want to change that ugly rear drum on my 98' Ram 1500 4x2 5.2 so has anyone ever done this?I want to get some performance discs for the front and rear brakes. The truck is my project car from my dad.It was down and I got it running so I'm changing a bunch of things out. Thanks guys your input on everything I ask is helping me a whole lot since I'm a newly-interested mechanic haha.

I think there's a DIY around here somewhere

nevermind, thought there was. Even checked ********* but couldn't find it on there either.

There are drum-to-disk conversion kits available from some auto parts sites, but they aren't cheap.

Yeup, SSBC makes a brake conversion kit, I believe it is around a grand. Or, you could go to your local salvage yard, and get the axle/brakes off a 3rd gen. I believe you also need the master cylinder, and a few other items.

rear disk conversions are very expensive, like $1000-1500 and in my opinion, not worth the money. just get some performance rotors and pads for the front and do the 1 ton cylinder swap on your rears and call it done.

We're not runnin' autocross, there is nothing wrong with the drums. With some good shoes and 1-ton wheel cylinders, you will stop just as good as the idiot who spent $800 on a disc conversion.

Do a search of the member "TMS_Bill" (I think).

I don't think it makes you an idiot if you decide to upgrade to Disc Brakes in the rear. It will give you more progressive stopping power than the 1-ton wheel cylinders and new brake shoes will. This is why the newer trucks have rear discs, except Chevy of course lol. I say if you have the money and know how, go for it!
