Question Axle splines

without pulling the axles out is there a way to find out how many splines you have? i'm looking for a locker and i have found quite a few but some are 35 spline, a few others are 32 and an odd one which i would think is a D44 28 spline.

1500 dana 44 front is 30 spline.
1500 chrylser 9.25 is 31 spline.

2500 and 3500 are different.

Just wondering and i dont want to highjack this thread but since we're on axles, when you refer to dana i realize we have dana front axles but do they make dana rear axles ?

Also whats the difference between a dana axle and chrysler axle other than gear ratios and the name.

i do know they make a dana rear end as i have one d60 in the front and a d70 in the rear, d80's i'm presuming are the dually rearends and as far as the difference in the dana's and the chryslers? i have no idea, my guess would be the dana's are stronger, i believe that somewhere it said the chryslers where for you light duty applications which really wouldn't make much sense as a d44 in a 1500 is probably the same as a 9.25 chrysler, no clue just guessing.

Dana makes many front and rear axles. Spicer owns Dana (or at least they did I think they went under) is an indepentent axle manufacurer. That is why their axles show up in all of the big three's vehicles. The big three all make corporate axles too, which is were the chrysler 9.25 comes from.

For strenght the Chrysler 9.25 is no lightweight. It can handle more torque than the 30 spline dana 60 found in the 2500 v8 trucks but since the 9.25 is a semi float axle it cannot handle the weight as well as the dana 60 full floating axle. The dana 70 and Dana 80 (comes in both srw and drw, srw in 2500 cummins manuals) are both stronger in order.
