Appreciation and an exhaust question.
I would like to express my appreciation for all of the knowledgeable people on these forums. I started looking for a few issues i was having with my ride when I stumbled upon this site. Thanks to everyone here I have the parts on the way to do the Kegger Mod. I now know the sound everyone is talking about.
My question is about O2 sensors. My Cat is rusted through and has damaged the 2 O2 sensors. I plan on replacing the Cat and the 2 sensors. It appears I have the system with 2 pipes into the cat and one out. 1 O2 sensor just before the cat and 1 just after. I have been having a hard time finding the correct ones. The parts stores tell me there are 2 upstream and 1 downstream O2 sensors. According to the VIN it is an engine code Z and model year 2001. The actual manufacturing date from the plate in the door jam is 2000 which is common with many vehicles.
Did I not look close enough and miss a couple of O2 sensors just after the manifolds? Do I need to have them look for a model Year 2000 to get the correct ones?
Any Help would be appreciated.

Go to this website http://www.moparonlineparts.com/ call the number in the top left corner of the website.
They are Mopar dealer and their price are not much more then a good aftermarket part.
Give them your vin number and they will give you the exact part number that you need.
Then you can search for the price useing the part number on their site and order from there.
I have used them quit a few times and very happy with their service.

By 2001, Dodge had two different O2 systems. Those to be sold in California (4 sensors) and those to be sold in the other 49 states (2 sensors). Tell them to remove the California truck parameter and see what you get. As far as I know, the O2 sensors were the same through and through. It just depends on how many you have. I might have pulled that last bit out of someplace but I don't think I did. Try a 2000 and see what happens. You and I have it lucky in our states as we don't have sniffer tests (yet) so in hind sight, you really only have to replace the upstream (first one) for everything to run correctly. It just depends on if you're on a budget or not.

If you ignore California trucks for a moment, there were two exhaust systems used at the factory from 1994-2001 for our trucks.
From 1994-1999 or so, the catalytic converter had two 2" inlets and one 2.5" outlet. Each manifold's pipe went right into the cat. The "pre-cat" sensor, the one that helps the PCM determine the air-to-fuel ratio, was in the converter itself.
From 2000-2001 or so, each manifold's pipe went into a y-pipe, which then went to a single 3" inlet, single 3" outlet converter. The pre-cat O2 sensor was before the cat, in the end section of the y-pipe.
Unless you have a California truck, or have had some exhaust work done in the past, you should have one of these two systems.
As far as what sensor you need, take the old pre-cat sensor in with you. When they hand you the new one, make sure the connectors and wire lengths are the same, and you'll be fine.
Thanks for the info. I took a look and yes I do have a y pipe and then it goes into the cat.
It Does NOT have California emissions.
So now my thoughts are to go with these to repair my y pipe and cat. This is going to connect to stock manifolds and then be reduced back down to 2.5 before going into the Muffler.

Hedman Header Reducers Ball and socket flange 3" in 3" out (do I need a 2.5" in 3" out???)

Did more research and this will not work unless I get PaceSetter's own Quick-Trip Long Tube Headers
Anyone have a suggestion on what to use instead?

Of course I will be getting the o2 sensors also.
Does it look like the parts selected will do what I need?
Any other options would be great also.
Thanks
I don't know if this will help anyone else out but I found some more info on the O2 sensors between 2000-01 for my truck.
It came from NGK website: http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/part_fi...uv/default.asp
I can see why the guy behind the counter selling parts was having problems.
