Let me clarify. If you set the machine right you won't have an issue. If you try to weld 1" thick together with a machine that can only do 1/4" you will have all kinds of problems. Mostly cold lapping, this is when the welder doesn't have enough power to melt the base metal. The weld will look great but won't hold worth a darn. Doing exhasts and stuff like that you won't have an issue.

Practice is the key, find some scrap and weld it together. Cut it up and repeat.

Ok, that is better. Now I know what you meant by over the rated power.

Sounds "simple" enough. Need to get an angle grinder & sawzall too. Hopefully I don't slice an artery grinding on my back under the truck.

I had a sawzall, but it is in NJ.

Trick is dont lock the trigger on the grinder while you're under the truck, i did that once and dropped it and it missed my freakin shoulder by a hair and hit the driveway and went ape****.

lol yea i stoped locking the triggers after that, it's a pain in the *** to have to hold it in place but trust me man it pays off in the end.

Iv had the wire wheel kick back once on me while i was cutting some bondo out of a crease on a door along time ago, it cought the edge of the door and kicked back and my right pointer finger got a chunk missing in it lol

The one I was using didn't have a locking trigger, or a trigger at all for that matter. Just a switch that always locked on.
