greetins from the 3rd gen section got a 2d gen question though
buddy of mine wants to put a turbo in his 5.9, can stock handle it?
what does he need to change to handle it SAFE.
it's a ... 97? and to my knowledge he has it lowered and that is his only mod.

Well, he'd better have the plenum gasket changed + the Hughes kit for it, otherwise it won't handle it at all. Even with that, IIRC from my readings on here, it won't handle much without internal upgrades.

People claim that the 5.2/5.9 will handle a lot of boost, but I think that they are full of shiz. Anyone who tells you that their magnum is turning a large amount of boost in stock form is either telling you a lie or they have another motor/parts ready to go for the one they have now.

I know of a few people that have put their magnum motors under boost and not one turned over 3PSI while it was in stock form. Anything higher than that and parts start getting trashed. These motors are just not designed for it.

It's very doable to build up the 5.2 and 5.9 to handle boost and make quite a bit of money in NA form, but it wont be cheap. Of the small block motors from the big three, the magnum has always been the most expensive to build up.

If your buddy only has about $10,000 or less to work with, then you need to tell him to either put the idea on the back burner until he has about twice that amount or tell him to just rebuild the motor and bore it out to a 408.

if u want a motor that can handle boost ide get a cummins. me and my buddy rebuilt his cummins with stock parts and with the waste gate pluged built right at 58 lbs of boost, now this also trashed the turbo, but the stock turbo can handle 50 lbs all day long.
