Default body lift and hitch question

My buddy had a 3 inch body lift for a ford f-150 never used but was sitting around for about a year. a few pieces missing (the bumper extension brackets) that was no big deal because a buddy of mine who is a welder is going to make me some 3 inch round tube bumpers.

So the other day i put the lift on, everything went smooth i payed 50 for the kit and had another 10 in bolts after ford threads were different. so 60 bucks for a 3 inch lift i could not complain.

like i said bumpers im not worried about, but my hitch hangs stupidly low now. Do they make a hitch out there that doesnt drop down so much? anyone got a link?

my other thought was to dismount the hitch thats bolted to the bottom frame rail and bolt it to the top of the frame rail, anyone see a problem in this? I will have to remove the spare tire mount under the frame which is no big deal because im going to mount a full size 35 in the bed.

Thanks

Most of the bolt up hitch receivers I have seen, have little gusset tabs welded between the mounting flange and the vertical plates. You would probably have to cut those in order to do that. This is what I am thinking of...

Since you have a BL, I guess you could get some fat washers to raise the receiver up enough so that the little tabs wouldn't hit the frame - but I wouldn't put much faith in the receiver at that point...

If it were me... I would have a receiver tube welded onto the tube bumper you are making. Something along these lines:

You would have to make sure the way the bumper mounts to the frame is secure - but I would trust that setup a lot more.

I left my original hitch on after my BL, and mounted lights in that gap to fill the space between the bumper and the hitch. The lights are controlled from the cab, so I can flick them on whenever I want. Great for hooking up a trailer in the dark or when you need some extra light behind your truck after dark. Another reason I did this is in case I have a breakdown in the dark when i'm out wheeling or out on hunting trips. These lights will rotate 180 degrees, so I can point them directly underneath the truck if I have to do some work under there.

They make most any height you need. The more important question is what are you going to be towing and what is the tongue weight. The greater the tounge weight, the higher you want the hitch so the load is level and most of the load is forward of the trailer axles.
If you are pulling much over 1000 lbs, consider getting a weight distribution hitch. The height of the ball is adjustable and allows you to distribute the weight of the load evenly over the the trailer axles and truck axles.
Have a look at this:
