Default only 35 psi fuel pressure.

so earlier today i was taking a load to the city dump and my truck started acting really funny, sputtering, lackof fuel, etc. so i filled it up and it seamed to run fine afterwards. i went by autozone and rented a fuel pressure guage and hooked it up, only 35 psi pressure, should be 50? truck has 175000 miles so im thinking its time to replace the fuel pump? i think this is the culprit to my truck acting up this morning and also the underwelming amount of power it has had since i bought it. does this sound like a fuel pump problem? Also is there anywhere to get a good rebuilt fuel pump?

It could also be the fuel filter. But were it mine to do on a truck more than ten years old I'd replace both while the tank is on the ground so I'd not have to think about them again for quite a long time.

35 is low. i don't know how low you can go before you have insufficient pressure, but i'd bet your on the borderline and with a little fluctuation, you drop too low.

well it was at 35 psi when the truck was running "good" i couldnt get it to sputter when i had teh guage installed (of course) but i am thinking that it fluctuates a little and when it drops is when i have issues.

35psi *might* be fine for idle, it definitely won't be for anything beyond about 2000rpm.
My guess is the regulator has failed. Just replace the whole pump and be done with it.

I recommend the delphi pump over the airtex.

39 PSI is the norm for a 1994.
