Default transfer case noise

I have this really stange problem. I went to put my 4wheel drive in gear the other day and it made a really stange noise. when i started driving, there was a really Load! Banging noise. I had my dad look at it and he said it seemed like the tires were hopping. the only thing i can think of it being is a peace of a gear broke off and is getting stuck in the gears as they turn. please tell me if you know what this could be. I just hope its not expencive to fix. Thanks!!!

try checking your linkage first, this happened with mine when i got it. If you pull the lever back to far it disengages partially, try moving the lever around to find the "at home" feel for the 4 wheel drive. Hope this helps

I tryed that but it didnt work. I think somethings loose. if i go under it and rock the front drive shaft. it makes the same noise.

go ahead and either change the fluid yourself or have someone else (I prefer a dealer**** when it comes to tranny,gears,t-case services) That's a start unless someone drops the t-case to check the chain.
