Weekend project: Injectors and MSD
Well, I am getting all the parts in, slowly. Just got the plenum kit w hardware and a MSD coil.
I will be putting in the MSD coil, a 6AL box, and my "old" 24# 4 hole injectors.
I want to see if those upgrades alone makes any difference in throttle response off the bat.
Actually, i will do it two part:
1. Just with the injectors
2. Then I will connect the MSD.
I will be installing the MSD so I can disconnect and reconnect it quickly if the box ever fails. like I did with the 1996.
THen i will add the 1.7 roller rockers, plenum kit, 180* stat, and Hemifever tune on memorial day weekend (not to mention the new cooling hoses). See how that does.
When you do too much at once, you really never know what made a real difference.
i bought my 1996 with the 4 hole injectors (5.2) and a mopar PCM. I have never driven a dodge without bigger injectors until I got my 2001. My 01 5.9 has signifigantly less ***** than my 1996 5.2. But my 5.9 has the death flash.
I know that the SCT will be the biggest upgrade of them all. I just need to see some progress.

Alright,
Parts list:
24# 4 hole fuel injectors
http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/domes...rs/?itemid=297
MSD 6AL ignition and MSD coil
Accel Truck Tune up kit (cap rotor plugs wires)
So far,
Took out stock injectors (they just feel like a crappy part).
Put in 24# injectors after replacing the o-rings on them
Spliced one connector to an injector
Replaced wires on the MSD Need to buy some more quick disconnects.
Well, I forgot how crappy doing injectors on a truck was when you must splice on new pigtail injector connectors. I might take off the fan and shroud so i can sit on the radiator support.
Probably about an hour for splicing the 14 remaining injector connector wires. 1.5 hours for the tuneup kit/engine cleanup.
1 hour to prep and connect the MSD.
Need to get some cold ones, because its gonna be hot tomorrow.
About the plenum, I looked down the intake with the TB off. NOTHING IN THERE!! No oil, looks like pure metal. I seriously think that I cannot make it any cleaner if i submerge it in a solvent tank for 2 days. Only has 48K miles on it. At least i know that i can get lazy next weekend and not do the intake. But I still need to do the T-stat. I am just afraid of pulling the distributor and not being able to get it back in correctly.
I have these other parts for memorial day weekend:
1.7RRs
Hughes plenum kit
180* t-stat
SCT tuned by hemifever (coming sometime next week)
Upper/lower rad hoses
Bypass hose
Heater hoses
PLUS some secret parts that will only make the "after" picture look much better.

Except for a few things you listed in the beginning and adding a few of my own, I'm doing the same thing memorial weekend. Just need to remember to pick up a few more items and hopefully DF will have two very happy dodge owners, lol.

The finish that they put on is not OEM rated for one and, it comes off. The only ones we found to be adequate were the Ford- blue tops which are made by Bosch. I've also found the OHM reading to be off from injector to injector thus showing large variation in manufacture at time of rebuild.
The spray pattern is not too bad depending on which one's you go with but, we've seen a couple that had bad flow rates. So far, I've only encountered one leaky injector out 16 injectors so, they are not too bad there.
I still prefer a factory made set of either Bosch or Siemens over five O's rebuilds. They are rebuilds- not new despite what they tell you.

huh, never knew that. The ones i got were the ford motorsport blue tops. Used them in my 1996 without fail. The only time they were bad is when I did not get the EV1 pigtails, and the little tiny metal clasps to keep the connector held there tight were missing from the stock connectors. That caused missfires. Got the new pigtails, and problem solved.
So I am putting in bosch blue tops.
Also, i lived in CA for 8 months. Seaside CA. I was there to go to the Defense Language Institute to learn Portuguese. I wished i had been there to learn japanese so i could have been there for 24 months.
The guy was pretty nice to me. He gave me a 40 dollar discount and sent me the connectors for free when i was having problems.
So far, i have never had any problems with the injectors. I ran them on my 1996 for 4 years. They have been sitting for about 1 year though.

The guy is a great guy to deal with. He's slow but, he's fine as a person and a business man as well. Ford Blues are made by Bosch in Germany- those are excellent when brand new OEM and, I've run his rebuilt blues without issue for a while. I ran that same model in fact with quite a bit of program mods at the PCM level at one time.
I rewired the entire harness as well due to misfires. The connectors had over-gapped due to years of wear thus causing misfires. I solder them, triple shrink sleeve'd them and sealed them to prevent moisture from entering and corroding the conductor. Make sure you seal them 100% and, if you live in an area that is near the sea, the salt in the air is extremely corrosive and will induce corrosion rapidly in untreated splice joints.

CM,
I'm interested in changing out my fuel injectors because I have one that is bad. Are all the fuel injectors from five 0 motorsports remanufactured? Because they told me the 24# four hole Bosch injectors were new and would hook up directly to my OEM connectors. I have a 2001 1500 5.9L. I feel confident in changing out the injectors as long as I don't have to change out all the connectors.
