Default 7-way RV Travel Trailer Connector/Running clearance lights

Ok I have two questions I am putting Running/clearance lights the orange and red ones you see on simi trucks. Can I tap in on the parking light switch for power or do I need to use a relay to keep from burning up the switch. Now the for the 7-way connector do I need to use a relay for the taillights or can I just tap into the parking light switch? Thank You

The right way to do it is to use relays, but if the draw is low you can get away without them. My trailer plug is wired right into the taillight wiring, but my trailer only has two lights on it.

That depends on how many lights you're using and how many amps each one draws. !0 amps should be plenty unless you're using a whole lot of lights.

depends on how many watts your pushing. 10amp relay should have no trouble with a 100 watt load.

I = P/E or cheat and use an online calc

edit: Gee this should have a post before yours warning. HA!

I have know idea how many watts the trailer lights are because I have not bought it yet. The other lights are 4 watt and I have 12 of them.

Watts divided by Volts equals Amps, so 48/12=4 amps draw for your clearance lights. I'd probably use ten amp relays anyway in case you ever want to add more. I doubt you would need bigger then ten amp relays for the trailer lights either.

if i remember right a member here has a diy for installing clearance lights in his signature. and i would not wire them directly to your headlights. i had a friend do this and he melted and shorted out his headlight switch.
