Default How do you adjust e brake on 98?

My e brake pedal goes to the floor and does not engage rear brakes. How can I tighten them? Thanks in advance.....

I have a 98 Dakota 4x4 and there is a tensioner underneath the driver side about half way back. Just get underneath where the parking brake cable comes out and follow it back. It is just a bolt that you tighten or loosen to preference. Mine needed alot of adjustment and it took alot tightening to get it to where I wanted it. If that doesn't work, you may have to take a look at the back brakes and make sure they are not out of adjustment themselves.

yes inspect the rear brakes first....also there is a hook that the cable goes to, if its disconnected, the ebrake wont work.

then check the tensioner, and yes mine too is drivers side about mid way.

if that tensioner doesnt work, there is a part you can buy (saw it at car-quest) that tensions up the rest of the cable that the stock tensioner cant tighten. or if the stock one is seized.
