Default 408 vs v10 vs cummins???

ok so i have a 1500 so i know my truck wouldnt like to hold up a cummins but with some work it could be done, also the weight of a v10 would be alot also so i dont know what all i would be in for for a swap. what im really looking for guys is a cost to power ratio here. i know it will cost alot either way but in the end i want to be happy with what i go with. Yall are the best and i know yall will guide me in the right direction. i really want to do the 408 stroker because i dont tow or mud or anything and i have a 2wd 1500 so i will just be toying with it. Let me know what yall think, Thanks guys,
Spears. White Devil

408- lookin anywhere around 10K to do...

Cummins- just buy a cummins

V10- its your easiest and less costly way to go...

see that what i have come acroos on pavement sucks. for what i spend on the 408 i could build an awesome v10, i guess i could get the power and sound out of v10 that i would with a 408. Im on a budget, i have been saving for the 408 but i really need to see some numbers and power specs before i decide. i dont want to go to a diesel, that will be later on. i just know more about a 360 and feel more comfortable building a 408 than building a v10 but i know yall are the experts so...

you could build up the 360 ( look at BlueBeast2's profile, he just totally re-did his engine) the 360 would be the best bet....theres ALOT of aftermarket parts you can get for that...

the stroker would take ALOT of machine work, and ALOT of new parts...expensive parts....the v10's i dont think have a great variety of aftermarket parts.

check out http://car-part.com and look at some motors....since you going to rebuild it anyway, why not get a junkyard motor.

my boss just made his 360, and its a 6.1L now, ALL new parts except the crank, and he has about 5K into it. but he put the parts in himself (owns his own garage) he only paid for the machineing and parts, and it was 5K....thats about all i got for numbers lol

i would suggest you talk to a couple others on here that have those v10's before you get all excited, there are things to consider, like for instance, do you have an unlimited supply of funds? i say this because i get roughly 6mpg babying my truck around town, 10 on the highway if i stay behind a tractor trailer, there is no such thing as fuel economy, as far as performance, you need an exhaust system which is going to sound like a honda after 3000 rpms (give or take) cai and the tuner from hemifever, then your going to need a transmission either the nv4500 or nv5600(manuals) 47re or 48re (auto's), in short, you have a 1500 stick with the v8's, to use a v10 or a cummins you need a donor truck or just buy one with it already in it.

Build a 360 or go 408. If I remember reading right, if you go V-10 or cummins you need to replace the tranny, pcm, driveshaft, transfer case, and definatly swap out the axils to handle all that power. Not positive on the t-case but yea, lots of parts and money. Now a good reason not to go V-10 or cummins is because your truck is a 1500. Yes it's possible to get them in the truck but with (if you do it right) modifications to the frame. 3 years ago I found a thread, I can't remember what dodge forum it was on, but someone did a direct cummins swap into a 1500. Never found out how it went awhile down the road after being completed but if I remember right, the people that did it had to reinforce the frame pretty good in order to handle the weight and torque of the cummins. I'd imagine the V-10 wouldn't be too much different since it is a bigger heavier motor then a V-8 but I'm not positive about it since I'd personally never stick a V-10 in a 1500.

Another option, if you want a bigger motor is to find a 440 to drop in. Would still cost more then modding or stroking a 360 but you'll have a bigger engine with more power and the most fabricating you would need to do is engine and tranny mounts I believe....and maybe the drive shaft going to the t-case. But it's a easier cheaper option then going with a V-10 or Cummins.

Sorry bout jumpin in but could somebody help me out, can u put a 3.79 stroke crank without having to bore the block? Also, what kind of pistons and rods could u use to avoid any boring? I'm just trying to save money, also my crankshaft has a bad vibrate to it and need to do something quick.
