Default 2004 8 liter V10 swap with 1996 8 liter V10

Can anyone point me in the right direction. Looking to replace bad 2001 V10 with a complete 1996 8 liter V10 with transmission replacement. Concerned about any modifications necessary to make it work.(Motor mounts, ect). Is there a resource or thread for this kind of swap?

Thanks in advance.

J

04 was a 8.3liter and 96 was an 8.0 correct?
I thought the 3rd gens only had the SRT10's which would be the 8.3.

I have no idea on you're question just throwing the specs into question.

interesting point, do you have the SRT10? if so thats the viper engine, you don't want the magnum v10. the srt10 is a speed demon all aluminum engine, the magnum v10 is a torque monster cast iron engine. i'd fix the one you have, speaking of which what exactly is your definition of "bad engine"??

Engine will simply need to be rebuilt, probably a head or or valve damage. It has been sitting for over a year and I do not want to spend th $$ to re-work/surface everything. Got the replacement with 70K miles with tranny, computer, wiring harness and all for $600. Hoping for a quick swap to get her running, then break the old one down or sell to someone who can use it. No punn intended when I said "bad" motor.
Both motors are the 8.0 just 5 yrs apart. Your thoughts? Thanks

Thanks for all the input. Any suggestions on prepping the new engine prior to installing? Plugs, wires, ect, thermostat? Not sure that anything is wrong with it and hate to potentially create any further problems other than doing the standard tune-up.

i would do the basics, plugs, wires, t-stat while the engines out be easier, as for the tranny's i'd ask montec about that but seems to me theres a difference between the 96 and the 01, i could be wrong but wouldn't hurt to ask. other than that should be pretty easy
