Default Flowmaster 40 installed - my impression

I just threw my flowmaster 40 series on and its soooo sweet with the 5.2l. Nice low rumble at 1800-2300 rpm. When i go into overdrive I dont hear it anymore. Im going for a K&nn filter pack pack next then the gibson headers. As for what I noticed when I had the flowmaster put on well.... I found I use 5th gear more now. It made a few more horsepower for me. I have been driving the same road for 3 months with the dodge and I go up this slight incline at about 50 mph... I would shift into 4th sometimes to keep the speed up. After the flow master was installed I didnt even notice it at first but i am not downshifting to climb the same hill. I find myself driving in 5th gear now. So I can tell the muffler made it easier on the engine to do its work. But the main reason to get the flowmaster is the sound. Its awesome with out being annoying. For power Id put my money on headers and a intake. I plan to buy headers soon and Ill post up my results.

zeek, I like the tires on your truck, what kind are they? Are they any good off road (mainly mud and mucky fields) Also, if i could give you one peice of advice, Ditch the factory rims!!! they remind me of the old chevy rally wheel package [&:]

hhehe yes the rims blow. Im doing my headers and the intake first before I do the tires are rims. Only have so much spare money. The tires are cooper off road tires and yes they are very good offroad with little noise. I am getting some new rims and mickey thompson tires this summer.

As for the muffler the 40 is louder than the 50. I have the 5.2l stick and the sound is awesome. id say get the 40's but if you want it less loud get the 50 series.

good luck

The Flowmaster 40 still isn't supposed to be really loud just really deep tone to it. I have heard the 10 series is louder but really don't know for sure.

I pit a 40 Flowmaster on my 5.9 also. It sounds Great going throught the gears in town but on the highway you don't here it. Alot of people said they didn't like the res noise in the cab but I don't get it. It has a nice rumble at idle and when in OD it sounds great in the cab.
