2001 Stereo Replacement
I'm new to the Ram thing, and have a question. I just bought a 2001, with the Infinity Stereo w/cassette. Obviously it has to go, so I purchased a Pioneer DIN model w/correct adapters. My question is, will this work as a direct replacement? Or is there rewiring that needs to be done due to any amps hidden behind the dash? Also, how is the dash removed?
I dont know if the head unit is direct replacement, but if I had to go with what I have heard about the infinity system I would say no. I have the same thing but I wanted to put in some new speakers as well, and to do this I had to run all new speaker wire from each speaker back to my amps in the back. The amps for the infinity system are connected to the 6x9's in the front doors. The head unit alone might be a direct replacement, but I have just heard that the infinity system is just a goofed up deal by dodge in order to get you to everything when messing with the stereo, so dodge can make more money that is. I would just take it to a local stereo shop and see what they say, and maybe get a second opinion as well. Let me know what happens. When removing the dash bezel it just snaps off, but be careful because it takes some pressure, but just dont crack it. And you will have to turn key to acc. then put in 1st gear so the dash can get over the shifter. Hopefully this will help you and not ruin your day. Anymore questions let me know.
