Exclamation My belt squeel experience....Rant!

2,000 miles I went through the top end of the engine as many of you know I replaced the water pump with a new NAPA Tru-Flow water pump. After about 1,000 miles I would get an interminnent squeel coming from the belt drive. I didnt think much about it. About 4 weeks ago the squeel started getting worse, and worse. Looked under the hood and saw everytime I revved the motor the belt shook really bad, like it was loose. Good I thought, its just the belt tensioner. It was original anyways, So I went down to Advance Auto and bought a new Dayco belt tensioner and Idler pulley, which by the way is much higher quality than the factory pieces.

That didnt help, in fact it was worse. Well ****, it had to be either the alternator or power steering pump. I thought that the sould was coming from the drivers side. Got a re-built NAPA pump and had the NAPA in the next town install the new pulley for me (for a measly $10! I was stoked!). Got the new pump on, and filled up and still the damn squeak!!! Took the belt off and gave everything a once over....

....The god damn water pump that I just put on 2,000 miles ago is shot! It sounds like the seal is shot when you turn it by hand, and even worse, the damn pulley isnt even straight!!! Holy crap!

Skip the rest of the crap, I got a new GMP pump and installed it, my dad just finished it up tonight (read why) filled it with coolant and it starts leaking.

I just got back from 6 hours of weedeating, get a call from my dad saying that the ball joint disintigrated on the S-10 75 miles away in Dayton, Ohio. He says the wheel was completely caved in. Thank god he was not on the highway, or he wouldnt be fixing Purpl right now. So now we got to spend $350 and get the POS-10 back (4 ball joints and all new steering linkage). He's getting Purpl back together so he can drive up to Dayton again tommorrow for work. Wish I could help him right now.

Sorry for the long winded post and rant...

Napa warranty that pump at all? They're usually really good about standing behind their products.

Yeah, limited lifetime. I was in a hurry, so I just got the GMP. I'll see what NAPA will do with my old one.

Napa took my old one because three GMPs were ****. THe seal on the front is non-existant.

So, it isnt the water pump, power steering pump, idler pulley, or tensioner. I'm leaning towards the belt or living with it.

I'm getting a Dayco belt to see if that helps!

Have a good 4th of July weekend everyone!

I haven't heard a peep out of my Dayco belt and I've had it for quite a while now.

Let me get this straight. After all that trouble with your water pumps, you get one that works and you still have the squeal and your not sure where its coming from?

That sucks

^ ++gatorback belts. I've seen cheaper belts whine and squeal due to minor and insignificant lateral misalignment of pulleys, but never a gatorback.
