Fabtech adjustable tracbars
Has anyone ever used a Fabtech adjustable front trac bar? I just came across it while googling. I've never seen them mentioned on the truck forums. I want to put 3" coils on the front of my Dodge truck (1996 1500 4x4) and if it shifts the axle over a bit I'd rather use an adjustable tracbar vs. welding an adapter thing on the front axle and redrilling the hole. They seem very reasonably priced.
opinions are like ********, every ones got one lol I on the other hand dont mind fabtech gear, I have the 5.5" long arm lift and its great, the coil springs are MASSIVE so its pretty stiff but as long as you do the install correctly you'll be just fine!! and installing a trac bar is pretty hard to do wrong!
If you have any fear of inferior parts on the fabtech bar do some modification and beef it up! new heavy duty or stainless steel heim joints and sleeve the outer circumference of the bar to add a little rigidity-( if you can bend the fabtech bar your playin carelessly!!)

I agree, Fabtech stuff seeems fairly stout and well thought out. I have never heard of any issues with them... but I have never heard of their adjustable track bar either.
Your thinking in the right direction though if you ask me. Your axle will be shifted to the drivers side an inch give or take, and a whole new bar (instead of a drop bracket) to recenter it sounds like a great idea... especially considering the outcome of the stock units when lifted coupled with a drop bracket.
Do you have a link or picture of the bar in question? I'd like to see it myself.

People bring trucks with broken ***tech parts into the shop all the time. Their products are such a joke.
I've seen it all from numerous cracked and completely broken welds, bent links and rod ends which bent for no apparent reason, all the way up to broken spindles. They don't make a single decent product.

Here's a link to the trac bar. Rocky Mountain Suspension had it for $202 (but their shipping is sometimes expensive) but this will give you an idea of what it looks like. It looks nice; you can adjust it with the tires on the ground.
I put 2" taller Skyjacker coils on the front and a 2" Trailmaster long add-a-leaf on the rear (I think part # R1530) of my 1996 1500 4x4. I am pleased with the ride. I'm in Iraq now, and I thought when I got back if the rear settled a little bit I'd keep the 2" coils, but if it stays looking jacked up high in the rear I might go 3" coils (and then possibly needing the adjustable trac bar).

As far as installing 3" coils under it, a longer track bar or drop bracket are not needed, but your axle will no longer be centered.
I had 3" coils (actually just over 3") under the front of my 2nd gen with all the factory components (track bar, control arms, steering etc.) for over 160k miles with not a single issue. I actually just sold it with 165k miles and it still has all the ORIGINAL, factory installed parts under the front yet... and none are due for replacement. So it is not NEEDED.

Damn, thats crazy... I have never heard a single bad thing about them. Not calling you a fibber my any means, just saying... you have the first negative comments I have heard toward Fabtech.
