I dont know a whole lot about the older 440's so maybe someone here can help me out. I found a 1979 440 motor out of an RV that was destroyed and was wondering if anyone knew specs on that year. Was 79 when the intake and exhaust valve sizes were decreased greatly and all the emissions started? Im not sure if this year was a good 440 or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

all the emmissions crap started back in '73~'74 time frame. I used to have a '73 Chevy truck with a 454 and it only pumped out 275 ponies because of the smog changes. So I'd say your '79 probably doesnt offer much in stock form... you might want to check out some of the older model forums and see what they have to say...

 

Yeah thats what I thought but I wasn't sure. I know the motor is still in the 70's but with the emissions and decrease in valve sizes it lost a lot of hp. Is there a forum on this site for classics or does anyone know of a good one?

 

I have run across them before but didnt save any links to them, do a search for dodge challenger forum or charger forum, I'll bet you'll find a few...
