Default Key Fob question

Before I even post, I have searched and still could not find the answers.

1) Does anyone know the programing pattern for the key fob, when I bought truck the guy said he broke it so it did not come with it. Going to buy one off of ebay and want to program it. I did it for one of my old cars, so I know it can be done for free.

What year of truck do you have?

If its the newer style, like my 2001, and you don't have an existing key FOB (which it sounds like you don't), you have to have it programmed by a dealership.

Once you have one programmed, you can program two or more others (can't recall the exact number) yourself easily. Just that first one thats a pain.

I'm pretty sure you can have up to 4 key fobs.

But yeah, if you don't have one already then you're going to have to give the dealer 30$ to program that first one.
I had to do it twice on my truck.
I was reading the car fax on my truck and saw that it had keyless entry so I got an ebay remote and got it programed at the dealer, then I lost my keys so I had to do it again. Luckily it was free the first time (end of the day and the guy was in a good mood) but the second time I had to pay.
The reason you have to get the dealer to program it is because they have to hook up their 3000$ scanner to the truck to put it in programing mode so they can set the key fob. If you have one already programed to the truck then you can use it to put the truck into programing mode and just hit a button on the new key fob within a certain amount of time to set it also.

Also, like Jason said, the older rams (I believe 98 and down, I know you can't do it on a 98) have to be programed at a dealership because you can't use an existing key fob to put the truck into programing mode.

What's the best way to find out if your truck has keyless entry? My 95 has power locks but it would be nice to not wear out the switches (I've replaced them 3 times now.) I'm in and out ALOT so it would come in handy.
