painting chrome wheels
Thanks, black is what I want.
LOWES, great Im all over that
First time in a Lowes last week, hour later my wallet was 900 lighter lol
Been boycotting Home Depot, never have what I go there for it seems.
Duplicolor, yeah it just doesnt seem to stand up that well I found if exposed. My alt/ac bracket & water pump (old m1/2bbl also) turned out very well but I used it on my calipers & always need to redo it cause it fades/dulls fast it seems. Maybe its just the red (silver on the other pieces)
Just finished up my drivers side Belltech 2" spring, Eastwoods single stage reflective chrome powder, turned out freakin GREAT. Took 25min before it started to flow, fully cured after 52min & took 2hrs to get down to 95* (only partially open oven door)

At my shop we have painted hundreds of sets of wheels for all types of rigs, on all finish types. Plasti dip works great with the least amount of prep work. but 90% of the time i shoot them with single stage paint. just clean the wheels real good, then scuff them with a scotch brite pad and then etch primer, and single stage paint. that is a very durable set up.
the primary downside to powdercoating is that you have to dismount the tires. other than that powdercoat is always the best way to go.

The things I like about the Plasti-Dip besides the cost and next to no prep needed as previous mentioned, is that you don't have to scuff up and basically "ruin" the surface. Because the stuff is a synthetic rubber coating, if at some time you decide you want the old chrome back or decide to color match, simply cut the rubber coating with a scalpel or sharp knife and peel it off...
Yep, the caliper paint is basically just a high temp version of their regular paint. I had some leftover from doing my rear differential and that's what I used on the winch bracket.
Holding up real good on my diff cover, but I guess the things that get kicked up off the road just do a number on the winch plate. It's not bad, but if you get within 5' of it, you can see a bunch of spots need "touching up".
BTW, I would NOT use the Plasti-Dip on the diff cover, trans cover or other such parts. The stuff is both sound deadening and heat shielding according to the can. Great for some things, but I'd hesitate to use it on a part that you want to be able to dissipate heat.
Would probably be great to use on a "home brew" CAI though, as you would want to shield inside the tube from as much engine heat as possible...

I may paint my whole truck with plastidip. I have thought about painting my dash with it. I glued and heat welded all the cracks in it. I just need to sand it smooth(it looks like frankenstien right now) then spray a few coats.
Quite nicely actually, I did mine when I did the cladding, it was bleached a dull gray. As a matter of fact if you look real closely around the edges, especially at the top, you can see the gray as I really did a horsesh*t job taping:
That looks pretty good! Yeah my V10s look the same washed out grey as peaking through the edges of yours Hammer. Prep, prep, prep or you will regret
Was at Lowes yesterday, didnt see the Plasti Dip (wife was rushin me)
Have to go back again later without her, though the V10 is low on the priority list.
Indy has all my attention after the 9mnth hiatus.
