My tail gate is stuck shut.. won't open... I oiled it about 4 months ago..didn't help much.. any one else got this problem?

 

Nope.
Take the tailgate handle off and manually pull the bars that lock it toward each other and see if it'll open.

 

x2 I had one of the little plastic clips break off from the handle that holds the linkage for the release... Just have to take the handle off the gate and pull both levers towards each other to get it open. You will probably find that you need another handle.

 

The rods which run out from the center pull handle to the latches on the ends of the tailgate may get stretched out if the latches siezes up. They have a Z in them about 1/2 way across and are not just straight pull rods. Had to rebend them on sons' 96. Solved the tailgate getting stuck closed that time.

Did you ever get the tailgate fixed?

Hopefully its just the latch, my truck's tailgate ain't opened by itself in over a year.... I just pinch the two points together and open it. But when I put my chrome handles on I hope that is all the problem is .
