Default Engine codes.

With all this talk about missfiring and what ever else is wrong with your trucks, I see a lot of this engine code talk. I was wondering how I get this off of my truck (99 Ram, 4x4, 318, auto) ? I try the on-off deal, I try it with the parking brake on, but I still don't get anything from it. And yes I do see the check engine light while driving, and I have a problem with "missfiring" or whatever it may be. What else can I do to find out what my problem is?

i know of no cheater way to get the codes. i just went to the auto store and bought an OBDII reader. it plugs in under the dash, the same place the emissions guy plugs in. i got the $75 version, but you can pay more for one with more options. Or most auto parts chains like auto zone or advance auto will check it for you for free.

the key thins is on-off-on-off-on and the codes come out on the odometer. it'll say p-done when all the codes have been displayed.
