Default Broken oil dipstick

When I was putting the fan shroud back on my truck I snapped off the plastic handle on the oil dipstick. The tube is fine, but the yellow plastic broke off flush with tube. What do you think the best way is to get that stupid thing out? Pliars won't work, I just end up pushing it farther back into the tube. I'm thinking about glueing a chunk of wire to it to make a handle. Any other ideas out there?

you can either drill into the yellow piece broken off in the tube and fish it out. either regualr drill bit or left handed drill bit
or take the hole tube out and poke the opposite side with a wire hanger to plunge it out.

How hard is it to take the whole tube out? I haven't really looked at it.

there's probably just a bolt down near where it enters the motor, holding a bracket on the tube. Might be another one up top, I dunno for sure. I've taken them out of other vehicles before, its not that big a job...

there is a smaller nut on the bottom by the base where is enters the oil pan thats like a 3/8" - 9/16" bolt connected to the block and after that bolt is out it should pull right up

one bolt holds the dipstick tube to the block and it just slides out of the block...you may have to wiggle it back and forth a couple times..check to make sure the o ring on it is still good before reinstalling it

The tube is just pushed into the block. It's suppose to be simple to get out however I broke mine off in the block and had to have it removed while at the machine shop.

Use compressed air through the oil filler. Not a whole bunch or you run the risk of damaging seals. I've done this on several cars. Trust me it works. Just don't be too agressive with the air pressure. If you have a breather and a 14x3 you will have to plug the valve cover breather as well.

You could try using a course screw and lightly screw it into the broken end of the dipstick and remove. The same thing happened to mine and this is how I was able to get it out.

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up drilling a hole into the plastic and then threading a "J" hook into it. Worked like a charm.
