Default 5.2 Performance

So now that I'm pretty sure my ECU is shot, any suggestions for a new one? Should I go with a performance one or should I just stick with the stock one? Either way where is the best place to get a replacement?
Thanks for your help guys

What year is your turck?
For most later years (like 98-01), Mopar Performace PCM's haven't been available for many years now. If you can find one, get it though. They are pretty decent performance wise, escpecially if your truck is mostly stock elsewhere. Otherwise, the best bet is to watch the classifieds on the forums or watch eBay and buy a used PCM. It will plug and play as long as you get one from the same year, engine, trans, etc... as your truck. If you want a performance PCM, buy a used one same as above, and then ship it off to B&G for a canned performance tune or throw an SCT tune on it.

It's a 01, how noticeable is a PCM programed by B&G? Cost? And general idea of how much HP gain there?

B&G was very noticable for me, but I worked with B&G to get it customized to work with the specific mods I have. It's not their normal performance tune, its modified per my specs. I had a stock PCM, then a Hypertech, then a Mopar Performance PCM, then the B&G, and all the others didn't even compare. Mopar was the best of the others, but the B&G is still far and away the best. It ran me about $300 when I did it several years back. I can't say on HP gains, but it was very noticable on just the butt dyno. That usually translates into good numbers on a real dyno.

I've never used one, but from what i've read about SCT almost everywhere, it is probably as good or better then B&G, plus you get the flexibility with it to do multiple tunes. Maybe somne guys that have SCT will chime in.

That doesn't sound like to bad of a price. I found a PCM for mytruck for 150 bucks on line. I called up a local salvage yard and they have one for a 98 Durango with a 5.2...only 50 bucks. If I have it reprogramed by B&G will it work with my truck?

Give B&G a call i'd say, see what they say. I can't say for sure on a Durango PCM.

without a very expensive scan tool, its pretty hard to tell if your pcm is bad or not. so be careful about how much money you might sink into something that might not fix your truck.

you might consider getting a junkyard pcm to see it it fixes your truck or not.

other options -
junkyard/internet - stock.
internet refub'ed.
junkyard/stock - then sent to B&G. B&G is not as popular as it used to be.
junkyard/stock - programmed with SCT by hemifever. this is more popular.
any of the above - with hypertech or superchips installed. its a slight boost, not much, good cure for death flash.

Talked with my local junk yard. The told me any ram year 2000+ has to have the exact same serial number for it dto work with my truck, even if I had it programed by the dealer. So for like 250 bucks with overnight shippng I can get a refurb that comes with a one year warrenty. Sound about the right price?

I'm not sure that's true. Call B&G and verify, they would know for sure.
