Default Brake drum question

Just had a question on rear drum brake pads, How long should they last?? ive owned my truck since 2003, its a 2001 and only has 65k miles on it but ive never had to get the rear brakes done. i havent had the checked in a while and tommorow is sunday so im gonna have to wait to bring it in to the shop. its lifted and has towed some stuff in its life. im getting a metal on metal creaking sound coming from the rear axle somwhere. real hard to pin point it, it does it while rocking the truck side to side or when im driving over bumps or turning, its not affected by speed so my first thoguht was leaf springs but ive soaked them both with wd-40 thouroughly bushing's and all to see if thats it but does nothing. it doesnt do it while driving if its a smooth road im thinking possibly brakes because if i drive it say on the freeway or just drive for about 20 mi or so at least by the time i slow down and hit some bumps or make some turns it doesnt do it anymore. if i let it sit and cool off seems to start right back up creaking. its not a scraping sound it sounds like im wheeling my truck and flexing it out but when im turning slowly or hitting little bumps....
they are not factory leaf springs probably equivalent to 3/4 ton or more with a higher arch for the lift factory blocks, less then 10k mi on all the lift parts.
Ive had more issues pop up in the last 3000 miles then ive had in the last 40k miles....
