Welcome to Dodge Forum.

This topic has already been covered many times, but here is a summary:

SCT is the best programmer money can buy for 1999+ 2nd Gen Rams, like yours and mine. Contact hemifever@aol.com, he will get you set up for far cheaper than anyone else. $275 for "canned" tunes, $375 for custom tunes if you eventually plan on getting really serious (supercharger, cam, heads, etc. etc.). Here is the SCT website if you want more info on the device itself.

Superchips isn't a bad programmer at all, and more popular simply because they have a better marketing campaign (in my opinion). The one thing that the Superchips Flashpaq can do, however, that the SCT cannot, is adjust your speedo for different sized tires, so that your speedometer (and etc.) is accurate when you put larger/smaller tires on compared to the factory units.

If you want even more detailed info, do a search using the search link in the black bar above your first post in this thread. Many interesting threads on this topic.

If your after a mileage gain, there is only one proven way to get a solid gain that I am aware of and have personally tried and can vouch for.

Dual Electric fans setup over the inefficient fan clutch. Look into it, there are alot of topics about this. 1-2 MPG gain and truck runs cooler, colder A/C, + 7-12 HP gain. All for under 300

Wow. I didn't know the gains were that much for electric fans. After I installed my hypertech programmer I gained 2-3 mpg's. I was shocked

It depends on how you drive and how close to "failing" your clutch fan was. I've only noticed a consistent 0.5-0.75 MPG gain after installing my electric fan (the clutch itself was only 1 year old, but had to replace the water pump, so I figured I'd use the opportunity).

The tuner got me 1-2 MPG gain on Premium fuel. Haven't had Sean (hemifever) write me a "mileage" or 87 octane tune yet, not sure if I ever will. Love the gains from the performance tune.

Started out at 9 MPG winter, 10-11 MPG summer (95% in town) when I first bought the truck (with a blown plenum gasket, I might add). Now I do 12 to 12.5 MPG year around. I'm also assuming the 180 degree thermostat hurt the MPGs a little bit, but the help it gives me keeping the engine cooler is worth it.
