Default Radiator Drain Valve

I want to flush the cooling system on my 1996 Ram 5.9 engine and am having problems with the radiator drain valve. I have the Haynes Service Manual and have located the drain valve and can turn it 90 degrees. However, it makes no difference which position the valve is in, no coolant will flow out. I have attached a hose to the valve and blown into the valve, with it turned both horizontally and vertically and it will pass air both ways. (Radiator cap was off.) Additiionally, the Haynes manual says there are two block drain plugs, one on each side of the block. I can find one on the left side towards the front of the engine but haven't found the one on the right.

Any hints on solving my problems?

turn 90*, then pull out AND turn another 90*. Messed with me my first time as well.

Thanx for the help. I tried that and got a little dribble. Monkeyed around with the valve, turned and pulled and ended up pulling the valve completly out of the radiator. Not a problem as it screwed back into place.

yeah, its a odd little thing and sort of tough to figure out the first time. if you'll pull it not-quiet-so-hard, it'll catch in a notch and drain out real nice. you can put a piece of hose over it and stick it in a bucket for less mess.
