Default 98 dodge 360 4x4 having tanny problems

alright so im thinking it my transmission but im not to sure, so when i start my truck and shift to drive their is a whining noise and when you give it gas just gets louder and nothing moves. but i can shift all the way to first and move then manual shift to secound. one i get going fast enough i can shift back in to drive for 3rd gear. does all good till i start slowing down to about 5 miles and then whinning noise and everything comes back, does anyone else ever have this problem?

hey Ive been having the exact same problem, took my truck in today and they pulled the codes and the torque clutch converter solenoid or something read zero and it causes the truck to start in 3rd gear... basically u need to bring it into a transmission shop, they will diagnose the problem for free, im still waiting for my results but what they do is open the pan up and either ur transmission needs to be rebuilt which costs $2000-3000 or its a simple fix of replacing the solenoid switch which costs about $300
