Default transmission?

Hey guys, lookin for some help here. Every morning when I wake up and go to school I start my truck up and you know everything is cold. Well when I put it into drive for the past 3 mornings it hasn't went anywhere like the truck didn't go into gear then I put it in park and put it back in drive and everything is fine it goes into gear perfect. It'll be fine the rest of the day. Does anyone know what this could possibly be?

Have you checked the fluid level? If that is fine try letting the truck warm up for a bit before throwing it into gear.

my truck does the same thing after sitting overnight. My fluid is fine and has regular services. I believe its because it sit on a slight hill and the fluid may take awhile to get to circulating through.

check fluid level with truck hot, level ground, trans in NEUTRAL, not park.
the stick is sort of hard to read, as it goes into the pan on a severe angle, and the bottom of the stick reads much higher than the top. i check mine to the lowest point on the stick, whichever side that is.

you must check it in neutral, because the pump does not run in park.

another thing that can happen is something called torque converter drainback, where the tc drains out its fluid. when you try to go, the tc has to fill back up and this only happens in neutral or drive or reverse, not park. so try this - when you start it up, shift to neutral for about 15-30 seconds, then take off. see if that helps any.
