Default remove cat? emissions

well i know there are thread on removing the cat and adding a non fouler or whatever, if anyone knows the link offhand id appreciate it, cant find it in the search or if anyone knows what to do please explain.

anyway, my state removed their safety inspections recently and are only doing emissions testing. what i was wondering is if they would still check for a cat? and if removing it would make me fail, im sure it would but just wondering if anyone has experienced it. thinking about leaving room on the cat to temp put it back on for inspection if needed. id just clamp the pipe instead of welding it.

i would just get the universal magnaflow for 80 bucks it will make it louder and you get low end.. whn i took off my cat i lose low end..

I got a non-fouler DIY in the 3rd Gen FAQ section...

But my guess is they will do a visual and you'll fail...

There is a very high chance that if still do emissions yearly on it, you will fail without the cat.

Thats why us 3/4 ton fellas have an advantage being wieght exempt on emissions! I have never had an emissions done b4...

Maybe look into getting a high-flow performance cat? Although, your idea ain't bad, you may be able to clamp in the old cat whenever emission testing comes around....then pop out and straight pipe when done testing...

mine is emissions exempt dont know if its because its a stick shift or a 4x4 or just over the weight rating but what ever the case it passes emissions with a hollowed out cat dosnt even throw a code for it.

I don't get it? If your exempt then how would you know if you passed emissions?

In my state, if you do not have a cat, you will fail your emissions. If you are caught without a cat, bypassing the cat, or with a hollowed out cat by any law enforcement, you'll be slapped with something like a $6,000 fine.

they wont throw a code for no cat...well mine didnt when it was gutted or when i had it out, you just have to leave the 02's plugged in or just throw a couple o2 bungs in the pipe and reinstall
