decal removal
ive got the grey "DODGE" decal the top left of my tailgate. the previous owner repainted the truck but just taped over this, leaving it slightly lover than the paint. is there any way of getting this off and saving it besides repainting the tailgate?
Don't rush to say it was done in his garage, unless you know that.. all I do for a living is pinstripe cars and truck (and boats and motorhomes, BLEH) and do graphic installs, such as the factory decals for bodyshops and new car dealers...there are a LOT of cheap *** bodyshops who skimp on the stuff like that and the painter will tape it off, though most will mask it for the basecaoat, then clear over it.. yes, you are now forced to use a heatgun to remove the decal and repaint the gate.....IF they do a good colormatch it can stop there, if not, looking at repainting teh gate and blend the bedsides and reclear entire bed... all dependsont eh painters skilland if he is good at color match... no the formula the computer gives doesnt always match.. most paint codes have 4 or 5 variants, such as redder, darker, more mettalic, etc.... there is a color from toyota, the light bmettalic blue, called ice blue, 23 variants... good luck to thise that have them..
Im in the process of removing my pinstripes from the side of my 99 Sport, its a slow process but its going good, im using a heatgun and non- acetone, you can see the brighter clearcoat only faintly, im guessing these were put on above the original coating, should be able to polish it to a match, but actually you cant see them, I had the 4-5 fine pinstripes that have degraded over time looks much better w/out
