Whats wrong with my radio?
Sounds like it is just wore out.
My 96's radio was doing crazy things, going to AM when hitting the Seek button for instance. I just replaced it with a nice Sony aftermarket. It makes the factory speakers sound 100x better and I have built in Bluetooth.

like mjonesjr said, it probably just wore out. check out www.crutchfield.com for an aftermarket head unit. Trust me, these guys will set you up right! (free install gear and free shipping).

The only complaint I have of them is the install adapter doesn't fit in the dash very well. It took a little modifying to secure it so the radio didn't bounce around when I hit a bump. I will probably go buy a different brand and see if it will fit in the dash correctly.
Their wiring harness and wiring tips were flawless. They gave perfect instructions on how to hook the new units Blue wire up so it would turn on the factory Infinity amp and power the speakers.
you guys should http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_i857_-car-audio.html , these guys have always treated me right and you cant beat there prices
I think this is the one im gonna get http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KDHD...-KD-HDR20.html
Where do i get the face plate thing?

Please don't do JVC... The internal guts are about as flakey as Sony is. I'm not knocking either brand, but I've found that neither hold up well over time. Commonly, I see people getting about a year out of them before they have to replace them again..
For about the same money, maybe $20-$30.00 more, you can get a really nice Pioneer that in my opinion and about everyone else on the forum is of a better build quality. Been beating on the same Pioneer deck in my ram since 2006.

As for the plate, they should send one with your order, but as someone else already said and found out, the fitment is poor. I would suspect it is a kit similar to what you can buy at walmart which is designed for several different dash mounts. If it were me, I would foot the coin and get a decent dash kit that is MADE for your truck. Find them at audio shops and best buy. Should be around $40.00 or so.

+1 on Pioneer. I bought one of the higher end models that you can get at Walmart (not a Premier) for around 220 out the door back in early 2007. 5 vehicles, a new remote (ex lost it in the snow on the ONE day a year it snows in Dallas), and one new trim panel later I still LOVE this thing.
I bought the 4900IB from crutchfield like I said earlier. I just looked it up and... it will be three years in october. I had no issue with the plate you's are talking about, maybe they changed suppliers. Mine HU looks like this (below) and flips down to take cds. Obviously with how old mine is, it is discontinued, but like laramie said... pioneer is the way to go imho. Never a problem with mine.

Last week I actually pulled my dash back apart and added the ipod cable.
Only gripe I have about it is... it isn't fully supported by my ipod touch. All functions work fine with controling it from the headunit, but it won't charge the ipod. Aparently most aftermarket accessories charged through the firewire pins which apple no longer puts in the newer ipods to save some money (saves them from adding a 12v to 5v converter in every ipod). I could buy an adapter to inject power in the usb pins, but... thats messy. I wanted a clean install and have the ipod chill in the glove box hidden, so im just going to pick up an ipod that was around back then so charging is supported. Lol I have a hard time remembering to plug in my cell phone... how can I remember to charge my ipod before everytime I drive?
