Default Engine misfire

2001 Ram 1500 (360) 2wd.
This thing is driving me crazy. The engine misfires when you first crank it in the morning. The first few seconds of idle it sounds like junk. After it runs a few seconds it sounds better and starts to idle normal. Then when you drive away it will skip and buck and jump. Has new plugs, wires and cap. Not getting any codes or check engine light. Feel really scared at this point, traded a good ole f-150 with a million miles and no air for this beautiful red dodge. Guess what I have been chasing problems sice then. Transmission whines when in reverse, the things get about 10.4 miles per gallon on a good day. This forum is full of scary sounding issues, have I bought a beautiful piece of junk ?

1st things to check are a dirty throttle body, the IAC can get gunked up and not work right when cold (or even hot), The IAC is on the back of the TB near the firewall. pull the TB and give it a thorough cleaning. while it's off, look down into the intake manifold and look for oil pooling on the bottom of the intake, get a mirror and flashlight and look at all of the corners. any oil means your plenum is leaking and it needs to be fixed (APSPrecision.com for the kit). Get a new TB gasket when you put it back on and torque it down to spec.

Another thing to check (probably not it though) is the o2 heater fuse, mine was blown and did something similar to yours except it was running already when it did it. Could also be your map sensor... on the front of the TB. It sends a signal that is used to control your fuel mixture, make sure there is not gunk in it's vacuum passage ways...

May be a little late as i see this was a month ago..but here goes...I had that happen when i replaced plugs if you use anything other then the ones listed under the hood they make it do that....it has somehting to do with the length of the plug...Check it out. Adavaced Auto who helped me figure this out had or has not sure a listing for champion platnums on their lists that cause the truck to to that same problem. Use the stock champions. You will be much happier
