I have a 95 1500 v8 5.2 and my gas gauge is all over the place. I can never really tell how much gas is in the tank.

Is there anyway to fix this issue?

Most of the time that is the result of a faulty sending unit, which is located in the gas tank as part of the fuel pump.

 

unplug tail lights, unbolt bed bolts, jack up bed on drivers side in a safe manner.
swap pump. the advantage of this is you can test it before you bolt it back up. the alternative is to drop the tank.

sometimes the sending unit can be brought back to life with some chevron techron fuel cleaner.

 

I've got a similar issue..... My gauge is all over the place until I fill it up then it reads accurate until I get down to 3/4 tank. Afterward it's anyone's guess how much gas is in there. Is this the result of a faulty sending unit, float or gauge.

To add to the mix, the gauge cluster in my '96 is shot. All gauges read high or don't read at all but my scan gauge shows the PCM is sending correct data.

Just as they said i replaced my fuel pump with a brand new one from auto zone, they got for around $239.99 is what i paid for mine.

Theres all the fuel pump porno for ya i would get pics of the the install but i already did it sorry.

I replaced the fuel pump and my tank straps. So I had to drop my tank. It really ain't that hard to do.

Step 1: fill it up with about 8 gallons of gas.
Step 2: Put your key in the ignition cycle from on and off *Don't start it* do it 8-10 times, by doing this it will help getting the fuel pump running properly and make your check engine light go off.
Step 3: Let it idle for about 5-10 mins before driving
Step 4: take it for a ride, your fuel gauge should be working by now.
Step 5: Find you a good mud hole after some rain, and let that motor purr!
