Default 5.2 plenum gasket change

Is there any reason why a custom fabricated 3/16 steel plate and a new Fel-Pro gasket not repair the tendency to leak vacuum and oil into the intake. I can't justify 600 dollars for the Hughes intake and if the steel plate will work I see no reason to buy their aluminum plate. I would like your opinion as to my reasoning. Thanks ahead of time.

the factory made the bolts a bit to long, so they could not torque to spec.

Also the belly pan is steel, the intake is aluminum, and metals expand at different tempratures, so thats not a good combo.

and 600? no get the repair kit ( comes with 1/4 aluminum plate, gasket, and new bolts) for 86$ plus shipping.... http://hughesengines.com ...search V8 Plenum repair kit

great investment^ i have it and it made a hell of a difference.
