Default CV joint and no boot

I had my "neighborhood mechanic" work on my truck. He changed out the CV joints next to the wheels because they were really bad. he didn't put any boots on them saying they weren't really needed. This doesn't seem true from some of the threads I have read on this forum. Can anyone please clarify this for me?

your 'neighbourhood mechanic' is an idiot............

i'm also guessing your truck is an IFS truck 02 - 05 otherwise it won't have CVs......

if said truck is an 02 - 05 then i maintain my first statement. if truck is actually a second jen 94 - 01 it doesn't have CV boots on the axle.............

i'm guessing you're referring to ujoints in the axleshaft ujoints; they dont' have CVs nor are there any boots.........

It is a 2001. I may have been mistaken on the terminology. They are the joints right near the front wheels that the axle attaches to.

Thanks for the info about your truck. But, Johnny is right. Your friend is a moron, because there is no boots .

+1 your truck has u-joints, not cv-joints, and u-joint don't have boots.
it didn't have boots before they were changed either... did you look at them?
